This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2022
Dated 1863 on lock with 40" round rifled barrel in .58 caliber with blade front sight and flip up blade rear sight. 1-piece plain walnut stock with iron mountings, "GKJ" cartouche on left stock flat opposite lock, and US marked buttplate. Marked with "L" on barrel and buttplate, possibly a unit marking or rack number. Marked "I.C" on barrel, stock, and military buttplate; research indicates this is thought to be a post-War marking when Massachusetts was condemning their obsolete muzzle loaders to acquire new breechloading rifles. CONDITION: Very good as polished back to National Armory Bright with a light brown patina beginning to form over top. No visible barrel date near breech. Stock is very good with handling marks throughout and no major cracks or gouges. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is lightly frosted with well-defined rifling.
