Made in 1879. Standard issue 32 - 5/8" blued barrel with "V / P / (Eagle Head)" proof chambered for .45-70 and fitted with replacement blade front sight and Buffington rear sight. Low arch breech block marked "US / MODEL / 1873" with the receiver bridge also stamped "K2 / 12". Blued side plate marked with federal eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". Full length walnut stock stamped with script "SWP" cartouche and circled "P" proof at wrist. Stock mounts include 2 "U" marked spring retained barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and a "US" marked butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Significant portions of arsenal applied blue is retained with balance drifting to chocolate patina. Stock has some dings and impressions, as often encountered on military arms. Strong bright bore. Crisp mechanics. BAS
