A very early production example of this precursor to the iconic Lee-Enfield series of rifles manufactured in 1890, bearing the cypher of Queen Victoria. It features a rich arsenal blued finish with a 30" Metford rifled barrel chambered in .303 with blade front sight and rear sight graduated to 1,900 yards. Also mounted with volley sights. Action retains safety and 8-round detachable magazine. Stocked in walnut with a full length finger groove forend and early production hand guard with squared off nose. Iron mounts including trap butt plate. No cleaning rod present. CONDITION: Very fine. Rifle retains the majority of its arsenal finish with some areas toning to patina. Stock has some light impressions with marking still legible. Good bore. Mechanically fine. A great example of an iconic early English military rifle. BAS
