Brass barrel of iconic form, with ocatagonal section at breech transitioning to rounded section, separated by a wedding band, then flaring to the cannon muzzle with a raised ring at transition. Top mounted with a spring-loaded bayonet, with "RUMFORD" on top rib of breed, under bayonet. Offset private Tower view and proof marks, with edges of octagonal section decorated with beaded edges and stars. Lock is void of any markings, but is equipped with some advanced late features including a waterproof pan with detached fences, roller bearing frizzen, bridled pan cover, swan neck cock, double bolted lock. Horn tipped ramrod, probably the original, with worm on the reverse, retained by a single ferrule before feeding into a reinforced mouth with spearpoint finial. Brass trigger guard with central floral and a well-detailed pineapple finial. Wraparound checkering at wrist with a vacant brass heraldric shield. Brass buttplate with stand of arms engraved on heel. CONDITION: Brass has a lovely deep golden patina, with some slight cleaning evidence on barrel. Bayonet has some even peppering but is strong and latches firmly. Lock is a composite, probably made for this gun, and an even chocolate patina. Stock is very good with handling marks and impressions throughout, with one crack running from rear of lock to tang. Pineapple finial lifting out of the stock and should be addressed. Mechanically fine, bore is very good. Formerly part of the Allan Klein Collection.
