Originally manufactured as a standard C96 by Mauser, this example is 1 of only 300 C96 pistols that were restored, engraved, and distributed by the American Historical Foundation. Left side of frame bears the Mauser banner logo, with the right side bearing Mauser's manufacturer information. Top chamber flat markings have been recut. Magazine floorplate is marked "G.O." followed by "005/300". Major metal components exhibit a lustrous high polish blue finish, with some small areas exhibiting a matte blue finish. Hammer and trigger exhibit a gold plated finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood grips. Frame and upper assembly bear matching oak leaf engraving on a stippled background. Left side of frame bears an Austrian coat of arms, with the center of the eagle being engraved "FR". Barrel exhibits 2 bands of oak leaf engraving on a stippled background. Pistol is accompanied by a custom wood display case, embellished with an iron cross on the lid, and featuring a red velvet lining. CONDITION: Excellent, with metal components retaining virtually all of their high polish blue finish, exhibiting few minor superficial marks from handling and storage. Matte blued areas exhibit some mild pitting beneath the finish. Mirror bore, exhibiting sharp and well defined rifling throughout. Grips are excellent.
