The India Medal was awarded for various minor military campaigns in India, mostly for service on the North-West Frontier from 1895-1902. The lot consists of: (A) India Medal engraved in upright capitals to "3137 RFN. H. MEDHURST. 3RD BATT. RIFLE BRD." Medhurst does not immediately appear in the records and the medal displays the PUNJAB FRONTIER 1987-98 clasp. (B) India Medal engraved in running script to "4125 Corpl W. Seammerton 2d Bn Ryl Innis. Fus." Seammerton does not appear immediately in the records but the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers were active in India. The medal displays the Tirah 1897-98 and Punjab Frontier 1897-98 clasps. (C) India Medal engraved in running script to "4432 Pte. E. Hutton 2d Bn Oxf Lt Infy". Hutton does not appear immediately in the records but the 2nd Battalion Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry was in India for quite some time and formed part of the Peshawar column in the Tirah Expedition in the volatile North-West Frontier. The medal displays the Tirah 1897-98 and Punjab Frontier 1897-98 clasps. (D) Bronze India Medal engraved in running script to "752 Mule Duff Gunda Singh 1st C.I. Horse C.T. Dept". Singh does not immediately appear in the records, but the Central India Horse received various battle honors throughout India. The medal displays the Relief of Chitral 1895 clasp. (E) Type II India Medal engraved in running script to "3786 Sepoy Indar Singh 29th". There are various soldiers with the name "Indar Singh" in the records. The medal displays the Waziristan 1901-02 clasp. CONDITION: Medals exhibit a nice patina. Good overall.
