Circa 1930. A classic plains game safari double rifle with 25" chopper lump nitro proof barrels. Barrels are smartly appointed with ejectors, hand filed matte spearpoint quarter rib, and spearpoint raised bladed front sight. Quarter rib with 1 standing rear sight regulated for 50 and 200 yards and with 1 folding sight with platinum sight line for 350 yards. Top of right barrel reads "HOLLAND & HOLLAND". Top of left hand barrel reads "98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON". Barrel bottoms with serial number "31421" and "H&H". Barrel flats with appropriate proof marks and "240", "CORDITE 31 1/2 - 100 MAX", "240","2.50". Barrel with third fastener lug. Faintly case colored and stocked to the fences action with bolstered frame is equipped with Holland & Holland's patented fire blued and checkered hand detachment lever, disk set strikers, hidden third fastener and double triggers. The sidelock action with gold line cocking indicators is engraved with the firm's traditional "Royal" scroll with "HOLLAND & HOLLAND" in banner on lock plates and bottom action reads "ROYAL EJECTOR". Blacked scroll engraved top lever also reads "ROYAL EJECTOR". The bolted safe with engraved and checkered bolt mechanism and safe slide is built with auto-safe. "SAFE" is in gold. Traditional oil finished stock with checkered pistol grip is fit with steel case colored and engraved grip cap with trap door, gold oval engraved "J.E.B" and is finished with a dark brown swine covered rubber pad. Splinter forend with matched checkering, blacked and scroll engraved diamond shaped pin, and iron metal. Escutcheon is case colored and scroll engraved while Anson release is blacked and checkered. Interior iron metal is blacked and marked with rifles serial number "31421". Rifle is travels in a light green canvas case with brown leather trimming and brass corners. Case with black and gold Holland & Holland trade label is accompanied by 2-piece cleaning rod, snap caps, cleaning tools, and oil bottle. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain 97% blue with light ware. Action, triggers, and ejectors are very good. Stock with a few light handling marks. Forend with some light wear indication. Case is very good. Nice vintage double.
