This Scagel Fighter was purchased directly from Dr. Jim Lucie's Scagel collection. It is accompanied with a letter of purchase and a picture of this knife with documentation on the back signed by Dr. Lucie. The dagger has a 9 - 3/4" blade length, overall length of 15", blade width of 3/4", and a massive 5" handle with a circumference of 3 - 3/4". A Scagel knife stamp is on the ricasso. The blade has light patina, no rust or pitting, and has never been sharpened. The owner could not find the original sheath, and Dr. Lucie liked this knife so much he made a sheath that has his stamp. In his documentation he states that the knife was made between 1895 and 1915 and also states that he has never seen this style of dagger or fighter. All of Scagel fighters are rare and very desirable. The handle is made up of red gutta percha, leather, and pure silver spacers ending with crotch stag. The heavy brass guard has the initials EWS. The elderly lady in her 90s in 2008 when he bought it said these initials are not her husbands, but the knife has been in their family as long as she remembers. CONDITION: Blade exhibits a nice patina with scattered areas of freckling. Stacked leather washer handle remains tight with slight areas of spacing. Scabbard remains pliable with light handling wear. Overall very good.
