Shipped August 7, 1885. Fit with a lustrously blued special order factory 30" extra heavy octagon barrel chambered in .45-60 with 2-line address rollmark on top flat and full length magazine tube. Blade front sight and "1876" marked ladder rear sight graduated to 1,000 yards. Case hardened receiver with factory set trigger, blued dust cover, and nitre blue loading gate. Stocks are not listed on factory letter. Currently fit with an upgraded finely checkered figured walnut pistol grip stock with ebony insert and case hardened crescent rifle butt plate with tool trap. Tang has been modified to accept the pistol grip stock and stamped with "2296 XXX" assembly number and grade, the stock also stamped in the tang channel "2296". Checkered walnut forend with case hardened grip cap. CONDITION: Very fine as partially restored and upgraded. The barrel and magazine tube retain nearly all of their expertly reapplied blue with high edge silvering and a spot of cleaned oxidation near the muzzle. Receiver exhibits the vast majority of its factory case colors which remain strong with some dulling and a spot of touch up on the tang. Butt plate and forend cap also retain portions of their case colors, the balance fading to patina. Loading gate retains approximately 90% bright nitre blue, with the dust cover also very fine with some light silvering. Buttstock fits somewhat proud to metal, displaying crisp edges and checkering with only light impressions. Forend is fine with some scattered bumps. Especially fine bore exhibiting razor sharp rifling throughout. Mechanically fine, excluding the set trigger. Lower tang screw is broken off in the stock, but functions as is. An attractive '76 in upgraded deluxe configuration.
