Circa 1860-1880s large Plains Indian pipe tomahawk with large cast brass spontoon style blade. Measures an impressive 2 feet long with a haft that is most likely repurposed wood from a pioneer chair that was discarded during an overland journey. Haft retains over 60 brass tacks with numerous empty holes from missing tacks with heavily patinated areas and metal staining from the where the tacks were previously. Large 11 - 1/8" cast brass head exhibits basal process design that measures 3" across. Head is held in place by old iron nails and remnants of gasket material. Cast brass heads of this size are relatively uncommon compared to the typical forged iron blades encountered. CONDITION: Wood shows some splits and missing tacks with head attached fairly solid to haft.
