Type II Paratrooper rifle manufactured by Nagoya for Imperial Japan's short-lived Army and Navy elite paratrooper units. This example retains its Chrysanthemum over the chamber (although partially defaced), above Kanji characters denoting the model designation. The left side of the receiver bears the serial number followed by the Nagoya arsenal insignia. The underside of the buttstock bears a small Kanji proof. Matching serial numbers are present on the receiver, bolt, extractor, safety knob, firing pin, barrel (underside of barrel receiver lug), and bayonet lug. Matching assembly numbers are present on the receiver reinforcement band, barrel reinforcement band, threaded wedge, and barrel. Metal components are blued, while the wood furniture is standard Japanese beechwood. The receiver assembly's right side and the barrel assembly's underside exhibit a single drain hole. The rear sight assembly retains its anti-aircraft wings. CONDITION: Very good overall, with metal components retaining most of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting some areas of mild surface oxidation overall and some areas of wear that show through to a gray patina. Mirror bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture exhibits some scattered dings, marks, and minor impressions but is otherwise very nice. A desirable example of an all-matching and high-condition Nagoya Type II Paratrooper rifle.
