Made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1884, and listed by Madis as the first gun built that year. Standard blued 28" octagon barrel with two-line Winchester address and "CAL 40-60" marking at breech. Barrel is fitted with standard 42A rear sporting sight and No. 21 sheared blade front sight. Standard blued frame with blued loading gate and serrated dust cover with integral guiderail. Action has plain trigger, case hardened lever and hammer, "Model 1876" marked tang, "40-60" marked brass elevator, and full-length blued magazine tube. Factory plain walnut stocks with blued crescent steel buttplate with trapdoor; no rod. Comes with Cody Research confirming configuration and manufacturing date. CONDITION: One of the finest third model rifles in existence with 98%+ barrel blue with light handling marks. 98%+ vivid action blue and lever case colors fading to an aged appearance. 98% stock finish with light bumps and bruises. Excellent bore and mechanics. A must for the high condition collector.
