This attractive pistol is attributed to maker Abraham Schweitzer, a gunsmith in the Chambersburg School of gunsmiths. The octagon barrel has a brass blade front sight and a notched iron rear sight. The lockplate is stamped "T / KETLAND / & Co" in the center and features a roller frizzen. There are 7 pieces of Sterling silver, including 4 engraved barrel keys escutcheons, the engraved trigger guard finial, an unengraved silver wrist escutcheon, and an unengraved pommel cap. Brass barrel keys. The brass furniture includes the flat side plate with beveled edges, sweeping faceted trigger guard, ramrod ferrules, and nosecap. The highly figured maple stock features relief scrolls around the barrel tang in the signature style of Abraham Schweitzer. There is also a relief molding along the ramrod channel. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina. The lock retains a brown patina, appears to be in its original flintlock configuration, and functions properly, but has a weak mainspring. Silver is polished, and brass retains a pleasing dark mustard patina. Stock shows some chipping around the lock, an old chip missing behind the nosecap on the right side, and scattered dents and scratches. A very attractive Kentucky pistol with great form and eye appeal. From the Louie Parker Collection.
