Beginning in 1877, David A. Lyle began developing a standardized line-throwing cannon for the United States Life-Saving Service to use in water rescues, launching a weighted 2 - 1/2" diameter projectile with an eye loop to send out a rescue line to stranded sailors. This unmarked black painted cast iron tube measures 31" and is touch hole fired. It is mounted on an elevation adjustable cast carriage with a Naval Company data plate on wide solid wood wheels. Complete with muzzle cover, worm, and wipe. CONDITION: Good overall. Most of the reapplied black paint is retained with some areas of loss and pitting. Carriage appears solid overall.

This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made.
