A 19th century hand carved Swiss spaniel or retriever inkwell and pen tray. The dog is behind a carved log, which is the pen tray. His head lifts to reveal a glass inkwell. The piece is finely carved, the dog's coat and expressive face is superb. Note the paws - they are exquisitely carved. The dog has glass eyes. CONDITION: No damage or repair noted. Excellent patina. The glass insert inkwell is not original to the piece.
