Lot consists of: (A) US M1881 Artillery dress helmet. Helmet is all original and retains dyed horsehair plume, scalloped brass chin scales, and gilt front plate with crossed cannons. (B) US M1881 Infantry dress spiked helmet. All original parts with a Horstmann contract and inspector's stamp under sweatband. (C) US M1872 militia kepi. Front insignia is a silver bullion "MC" surrounded by a gold bullion wreath. Polished cotton liner and tarred bill with "MC" brass she buttons. CONDITION: Artillery helmet is very good, with one small soft spot on front bill body. Underside retains sweatband, which is solidly stitched to the body. Under brim has flaking liner material. All insignia is solidly attached. Infantry helmet has front eagle plate loose at the wings. Split in front of helmet body that extends from the tip of left wing 2 1/2". Inside is very good overall. Kepi is very good overall with no holes or mothing to the body. Russet leather sweatband is present but loose. Lining is all good.
