A pre-Civil War commission signed by Abraham Lincoln appointing Alexander Murray to "First Lieutenant in the Thirteenth Regiment of Infantry". The commission is dated January 19, 1861, and was signed with dip pen. It is also signed by Secretary of War Simon Cameron. The signatures were authenticated, and the commission comes with a James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity. This commission was once part of the renowned collection of Dr. John K. Lattimer, who was known to collect memorabilia related to the 16th President. The commission also comes with documentation from Henry Chapman Numismatist as well as a notarized letter (both dated 1935) stating the authenticity of the document. CONDITION: The commission was stored folded and exhibits heavy fold lines. The ink has slightly faded but remains legible. Scattered light blemishes with nice edges. Old inventory sticker on the reverse of the top right corner. An attractive Lincoln document that is ready for framing.
