Circa 1861 per serial number, a time frame when Wilson notes Colt's factory engraving became somewhat coarse as a result of a thickening of the bands of scroll. Classic 4" configuration of the '49 Pocket, with approximately 50% coverage of wide scroll engraving with interspersed florals on barrel assembly, wolf's head hammer, shell motif on backstrap; punch dot marks observed on barrel assembly, frame, trigger guard, and butt. Matching full or partial serial numbers on wedge, rammer, barrel assembly, frame, trigger guard, butt, and cylinder. Single piece walnut grips. Housed in a contemporary wood case with green baize lining French fit for a UMC percussion cap tin, a small powder flask with an embossed eagle, and a brass bullet mold with "COLT'S PATENT" marking with a cast ball and pointed ball. CONDITION: Revolver is essentially dove grey throughout with crisp engraving, some areas of cleaned oxidation throughout. Approximately 10% of the silver plate is on the straps and trigger guard, brass is a mellow gold color. Mechanically fine, action with 3 clicks, bore with visible rifling and moderate oxidation throughout. 1 lug on frame is missing, and 1 nipple is sheared. Case is fine as new, accessories are very good.
