Second model saddle ring carbine manufactured circa late 1869. 20" round barrel chambered in .44 rimfire with full-length magazine tube. Patent information stamp is not visible as top of barrel has been decorated with peening and small copper-recessed circles. Blade front sight and frontier modified notched rear. Hammer locks smoothly to full cock. Smooth walnut carbine forend. Heavily embellished walnut stock for possible Wild West type show with bronze "US / 12" collar disc surrounded by concentric rings of small and large brass tacks with tacks also on top and bottom of stock. Both sides of receiver have raised relief, separately applied German silver decorations of a crescent moon, fun moon, rattlesnake, and two crosses with "s "UC" stamped on both sides. A wrapped rawhide thong helps to hold the front barrel band in place. Brass rifle crescent butt plate with tool compartment. CONDITION: Good overall. Barrel and magazine tube show light pitting with plum brown applied at some point in its life. Brass receiver exhibits a mellow light golden color with heavy use marks. Stocks are fair, showing heavy wear and possible shellac applied long ago, with a 2" section of loss along the top right wrist. Bore is dark, with no lands or grooves visible. Mechanically fine.
