Manufactured from 1856 to 1859, with only approximately 1,000 rifles produced in .36 caliber. Just 300 of these rifles were fit with 27" round barrels like this example. 2-line address reading "COLT'S PT / 1856" and "ADDRESS COL. COLT / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." stamped over the breech. German silver blade front sight and buckhorn rear. Stocked in plain walnut with a brass patch box and steel crescent butt plate. CONDITION: Good. Iron components display a brown patina with some wear and impressions. Markings somewhat soft. Stock is good as sanded with some added finish and scattered marks. A small split is present between the butt plate and patch box. Dark bore with defined rifling and some erosion from use of period black powder. Good mechanics. Matching numbers observed on frame, cylinder, barrel, loading lever, lower tang, and butt plate. Ramrod and forward mount are no longer present.
