C. 1900. Arguably one of the most recognized and copied trade signs used by harness makers, blacksmiths, saddlery shops and farriers is the iconic Jockey figure. This example, survived from being used as a hitching post, dates to the late 19th century and whose likeness as the model is attributed to Isaac Murphy, the first jockey to be elected to the National Museum Of Racing Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs NY. This example retains original paint, showing no breaks, cracks or repairs and is simply an excellent example of early American craftsmanship in iron, at its best.
