Probably about 1830-40. Unmarked smoothbore octagon barrel with brass front blade sight. Top flat engraved with double lines in front of and behind sight. Flat lockplate with roller frizzen and stamp-engraved designs. Center stamped "R. ASHMORE / WARRANTED". The brass furniture includes a Lehigh County sideplate with beveled edges, an open-ended nosecap, plain trigger guard, pommel cap, and ramrod ferrules. A silver diamond is inlaid on both sides of forestock. 2 incised lines along forend on both sides. Stock of partially figured maple. Associated wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel polished with some scattered areas of light rust. Lock also mostly polished. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration, cock screw missing half of head and frizzen spring is popping out and needs repaired. Brass retains a pleasing mustard patina. Stock retains most of its original finish with scattered areas of flaking and wear. A couple dents and bruises. An attractive Lehigh County pistol.
