This musket is pictured as 30.MM on page 80 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. The musket retains its yellow "COLLECTION OF GEORGE C. NEUMANN" tag signed by George Neumann with a brief hand-written description and note of plate and page where the musket is featured in his book. The tapered round barrel has a bayonet lug on top towards the muzzle. It is stamped with private British view and proof marks as well as partially visible makers mark "G", probably for Galton. The convex lockplate is engraved "TOWER" on the tail and has a large crown over "GR" in the center. Note that it is a private commercial weapon, as there is no crown and broad arrow to denote government ownership. Standard brass Pattern 1757 style furniture. Stocked in walnut with relief apron around barrel tang, complete with an iron ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina with some corrosion at breech. Lock retains a light brown patina with light pitting throughout, markings very good. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and does not hold on half cock. Brass shows scattered marks from use and retains a pleasing mustard patina. Stock has scattered marks from use and two long thin splinters professionally replaced, one on each side at the muzzle. A rare opportunity to purchase a gun from the world-renowned collection of George Neumann that is in the most important Revolutionary War book.
