Archetypal configuration for 1917 with serif fonts, left side of slide with 2-line 2-block patent and address information, Rampant Colt at rear; right side with "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY". Half moon front sight, flat top U notch rear sight, "H" at top of firing pin retaining plate. Barrel with "P / H" on hood, oriented to read barrel up. "H" "U" "G" subinspector proofs on top of frame near disconnector hole. Frame has "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" rollmark on left side of dust cover, intertwined GHS device for Gilbert Stewart near magazine release, and serial number on right side. Small parts comprise a replacement parkerized serrated hammer, thick tab safety with milled relief cut, long smooth trigger, checkered magazine release, checkered slide release with milled relief cut, short grip safety, smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop. 2 tone magazine with pinned base and lanyard loop. Grips are truncated diamond pattern walnut. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining the vast majority of the original Colt bluing, with some minor silvering to high edges and brown spotting coming up, particularly at slide serrations and dust cover. Some minor marks to reciprocating areas from use; takedown mark. Grips straps largely a smooth chocolate brown patina with flashes of bluing; grip safety with a few splotches of oxidation. Mechanically fine, somewhat sluggish due to congealed oil, possibly period, bore with excellent rifling and light frosting. Very attractive.
