Lot of 14 documents associated with Lt. Colonel and Colonel Jonathan Lattimer (Latimer) of Connecticut. Includes his original Saratoga period Sept. 4, 1777, bond for 2,000 pounds to guarantee accurate accounting for money received from the state for use of his regiment, “whereas the above named Jonathan Lattimer is appointed Col. and commander of a Regt. of Militia ordered to the Northward & now on their March to join the Continental Army there.” 12-page 1777 account notebook recording regimental money distributed to officers along with some of their receipts. Pay receipts and orders include 1777 pay receipt for company wages; list of receipts for officers of the regiment; June 1777 pay order to Lattimer; abstract of wages for field and staff; 1777 pay order for Lattimer for a company marching to Fort Trumbull. May 1780 pay order; 2 1777 dated pay orders; 1 1778 pay order, 1 1780. 2 documents, dated 1786 and 1788, regard postwar settlement of his wartime accounts. Accompanied by a large, commemoratively engraved powder horn: “ASA PLANK SARATOGA SEPT 19” with crude portrait bust of an officer in tricorn labelled “Col. Latimer.” All Ex-Lattimer collection. The account book, obviously kept on his person during an active campaign, is very scarce. Born in New London, Connecticut, Jonathan Lattimer served in the French and Indian War and in the Revolution was Major 7th Connecticut July 6th to December 19th 1775; Lt. Colonel of Selden’s Connecticut State Regiment June 20th to December 11th, 1776, often in command of the unit. He was present at the Siege of Boston, Battles for Long Island and New York, and, as Colonel, led a regiment of Connecticut militia August 23rd to November 10th, 1777 in the Saratoga Campaign, serving in Poor’s brigade, fighting at Freeman’s Farm and Bemis Heights. PROVENANCE: Ex-Lattimer Collection. CONDITION: Very good overall, but with one or two documents showing separation lines on folds.
