Shipped in a shipment of the only gun of its type to Paul Borget (Borge in some records) in Fort Reno, Wyoming (also listed as Nevada in accompanying Colt letters) on February 4, 1891. Factory letter confirms configuration as 7 - 1/2" barrel chambered in .44/40 WCF with blue and case hardened finish, wood stocks, and factory engraved. Engraved in near full coverage with floral and acanthus scroll on a punchdot background with accenting wrigglework, geometrics, crosshatching, and sunbursts in the hand of Helfricht's shop, or possibly even the Master Engraver himself. Fit with 2 piece checkered factory grips. Accompanied by a burl walnut red velvet lined case. Documentation consists of extensive research into where exactly this revolver was shipped to as well as to whom it was shipped to, whether it was Paul Borge or Borget, and whether it was shipped to Fort Reno, Wyoming, Nevada, or Oklahoma. Additional research is included into an original owner of this revolver from the period, Thomas Claude Logan, who passed away in 1914 and handed down this SAA through 3 generations until it was sold to Dr. Jim "Doc" Watson. More research would be needed as to find where this revolver was shipped exactly as well as who Paul Borge was, and finally, how it came to be in the hands of Thomas Claude Logan. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Very good, with nearly all of the original finish turned a brown patina with sharp engraving and original bluing visible in well-protected areas, most notably at ejector rod housing. Frame is essentially a gray patina with faded traces of original case colors visible in protected areas. Grips are excellent, with no major signs of distress. Action is tight and crisp with all 4 hammer stops. Bore is frosted with moderate abrasion toward muzzle and well-defined rifling. Case is excellent. A very desirable and attractive factory engraved Colt Single Action Army with interesting Western shipment, and an exciting opportunity for more research to be done to complete its history.
