According to the Colt factory Archive letter, this gun left the factory as a .45 Colt with a 5 - 1/2" barrel. It was blued with carved ivory steer head stocks. It was shipped to the O'Neil McNamara Co. in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on November 7, 1927, in a shipment of 1 gun. This letter confirms the configuration of this gun. Single line barrel address on top of the barrel, "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG.CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.". Roll die caliber designation on the left side of the barrel, "45 COLT". Two line patent dates on the left side of the frame, "PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN 19, 75". There is a Rampant Colt logo on the left side of the frame. Matching serial numbers observed on the frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. The frame and backstrap are numbered under the grips. Two piece carved ivory grips with a bulls head motif with nickel Colt medallions at the top of each grip. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: This gun retains the vast majority of the original applied blue finish. It does have a turn line and some holster and high edge wear at the muzzle. The case colored frame and hammer have color in the protected areas with the remainder turning to a silver color. The screws have not been molested. Good bore with sharp lands and grooves. Action locks up tight and indexes fine. It has all four clicks. The grips show some wear and age cracks at the bottom of the grips.
