Nickel plating was not a standard option available on K-22 revolvers with less than 25 known. In 1974, a group of 15 17-3 revolvers was ordered by notable Smith & Wesson collector Bill Orr with bright nickel finish, 6" barrels, square butt frames, target triggers, and target hammers, all falling in the 1K3034 to 1K3655 serial number range. This example numbered 1K3237 falls well within this range and is marked accordingly with "N"s indicating nickel finish on the frame, cylinder, and underside of barrel. As with the other guns in this group, it is fitted with a bright nickeled barrel with partridge front sight and adjustable rear. .22 LR cylinder set in a 3-screw square butt K frame. Stocks are 2-piece checkered walnut inset with S&W medallions. Complete with the original matching 2-piece gray box with paperwork and tools, in addition to a dovetailed wood Smith & Wesson display case, which is fitted for a larger revolver. CONDITION: Excellent, near new. Nearly all of the brilliant factory nickel is exhibited throughout with only light handling marks, a turn line, and some mild muzzle wear. Strong case colors displayed on hammer and trigger. Stocks have a couple marks but are otherwise excellent. Very fine bright bore with razor sharp riffling. Mechanically fine. Box and case have only moderate wear. An outstanding, incredibly rare Smith & Wesson.
