A very nice example of a US Air Force P-4A flight helmet which was derived from the P-1 helmet used by jet pilots that was introduced by the United States Air Force in March 1948. The Type P-4A was basically the same helmet with an added sun visor, improved earphones, and minor refinements to the web lining and straps. The type MS-22001 oxygen mask was worn with this helmet which saw extensive service with the Air Force through the 1960s. The helmet has the gold on black label and is marked as a size "X-LARGE". There is a separate label that dates the helmet to "1957". Visor is complete and working, though there are light surface marks. The helmet shell shows external wear. Liner is complete with nice intact hardware. Typical staining from wear with pliable leather and nice US Air Force stamp. Oxygen mask is intact with evident cracks on the leather hose with remnants of glue suggesting a repair. A great example of an early US Air Force flight helmet. CONDITION: Good.
