Dovetail lump barrels with a steel bead frontsight on a solid, slightly tapered rib with "GALLYON & SONS 66 BRIDGE St CAMBRIDGE" engraved. Sprig of acanthus scroll at rear of rib, line dressing at the breech. Action flats with modern Nitro proofs for a 28 gauge choked gun, 2 - 3/4" chambers, and nominal .563 IBD. Friction fit splinter forearm with point pattern checkering; wood appears to be a restock as the fit is not quite right. Round body action with back action peninsula locks signed "GALLYON & SONS", nitro proofs on the action flats, and sparse scroll engraving and linework throughout. Rebounding hammers. Trigger guard protects double triggers with a long tang engraved with serial number. English straight grip stock of a fairly straight, slightly smokey walnut with point pattern checkering at the wrist. Vacant oval at toe line, leather-covered recoil pad. CONDITION: Overall very good as restored, with barrels retaining virtually all of a nicely executed reblack that has softened legends somewhat; some pitting under the blue underneath the forearm. Wood is very good with a few minor chips on forearm; checkering is sharp. Action has been polished, with some pinprick oxidation visible. Mechanically fine, bores are excellent, bright and shiny. With the recent proofs for nitro, this should be a fine upland gun.
