According to the Colt Factory archive letter, this gun left the factory as a .41 Colt with a 2" barrel. It was nickel with rubber stocks. It was shipped to Hartley & Graham in New York, New York, on May 23, 1882 in a shipment of 25 guns. With the 2" barrel guns Colt was not able to put a full address on the top of the gun, so they just have the word "COLT" on the top of the barrel. This one has an etched panel on the left side of the barrel, "COLT D.A. 41". Three line patent dates on the left side of the frame. Caliber designation on the left rear trigger bow ".41 CAL". Half moon front sight with a V notch rear sight. Six shot fluted cylinder with two piece hard rubber grips and nitre blue small parts. Matching serial numbers observed on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. PROVENANCE: Out of the Dr. Marohn collection. CONDITION: This gun retains approximately half of the factory applied nickel finish. Most of the finish loss is to the frame. Checkering on the grips is sharp and crisp. Very good bore with well defined lands and grooves. Action works in both single and double action. The 2" barrel guns rarely come up for sale.
