Scarce commercial production First Russian Model produced circa 1871 to 1874. Classic 8" ribbed barrel with "RUSSIAN MODEL" address, half moon front sight, and U-notch rear sight. Gun is attractively gold washed and profusely embellished with deeply cut, elaborate Nimschke-style New York foliate scroll engraving shaded with punch dots. A pair of gargoyle heads breathing scroll from their mounts are intertwined on the central panels of the barrel. Left side of the frame displays a dog head, while the right side features a screaming eagle head. Approximately 70% coverage. Lanyard loop butt with 2-piece smooth ivory grips. CONDITION: Excellent. Gold finish remains strong with only mild losses. Grips fit slightly shy to the straps and display an aged cream patina. Strong bore with some mild cleaned oxidation spots. Fine mechanics. A stunning Smith & Wesson.
