Early version of the classic Wells Fargo Express wood and iron strong box. This example has a slot cut into the top that was most likely for customers to mail small paid post currency and valuables without having to unlock the lid, or could have been repurposed as a voting ballot box. Stenciled letters to face are at approximately 45% legibility, and read, "Wells Fargo / BANKERS / & CO." Remnants of the leather straps to the both sides. CONDITION: Typical honest age wear for a box of this vintage. Rates good to very good.
