Manuscript document, in Latin, 1 page, measuring approximately 3 - 1/2" x 13", oblong, on vellum. Westminster, July 21, 1535, to George Boleyn, Viscount Rochford, Long Warden of the Cinque Ports, and brother of Anne Boleyn. A formal writ beginning with the full royal title and superscription elaborated, forbidding the Cinque Ports to export, or to allow any ship presently in them to export any grain, wheat, barley, oats beans, peas, etc. or any bread, cheese, butter, or anything similar. Also mentions candies or any other victuals to foreign lands, except for the town and county of Calais. The great seal (not present) has been set to this order, and the penalty for its contravention is specified as a 200 pound fine, leviable on all goods and chattels. This was sent during the brief marriage of Anne Boleyn to King Henry VIII, so George Boleyn was, at this time, the King's brother-in-law. When she did not produce a male heir for the King, Anne fell rapidly from favor and she was charged with infidelities to the king, including incest with her own brother, and both were executed.
