Approximately 216 of these compact bicycle rifles were manufactured with 16" barrels. This example manufactured in 1897 during the first year of production, is fitted with an octagon barrel. Combination front sight, elevation adjustable rear, and folding tang aperture sight. Takedown receiver. Reapplied blued finish throughout. 2-piece walnut rifle stocks with blued nose cap and checkered hard rubber Marlin shotgun butt plate. Included factory research indicates the factory record is blank. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Fair. The vast majority of the flaking reapplied blue is retained. Evidence of cleaned oxidation under the finish present. Stocks retain portions of varnish with wear and impressions throughout but no major sign of distress. Dark bore with visible rifling. Good mechanics. A very scarce Marlin.
