Records indicate this gun was manufactured in 1878. (June or July). Described as a 10 bore double gun, side snap action, rebounding locks, center fire and sold to the Honorable G. D. Pennant MP (member of parliament) . "George Sholto Gordon Douglas-Pennant, 2nd Baron Penrhyn (30 September 1836 – 10 March 1907), was a landowner who played a prominent part in the Welsh slate industry as the owner of the Penrhyn Quarry in North Wales. In 1866 he was elected Conservative Member of Parliament for Caernarvonshire, and held the seat until 1868. He was commissioned on 1 March 1860 as captain-commandant of the 1st (Carnarvon) Carnarvonshire Rifle Volunteer Corps, which was largely recruited from his family's Penrhyn Slate Quarry. A second unit was soon raised from Pennant employees and he was promoted to major in command of the 1st Administrative Battalion of Carnarvonshire Rifle Volunteers. He was later made Honorary Colonel of the 4th (Royal Carnarvon and Merioneth Militia) Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, a position that his father had also held." WIKI. Gun features English style straight grip checkered and highly figured walnut stock with matching lever release splinter forearm. (all matching numbers) , skeletal checkered butt stock, double triggers, fine browned Damascus twist barrels with London maker stamped on rib. Action and locks feature fine English scroll engraving as to the exposed hammers. Wilkerson patent 1878 on upper tang as well as both side plates. Engraved trigger guard and barrel breech. Right side release lever. Comes in wood and leather case with Wilkerson label. Several tools including Ebony chamber brush, ebony cleaning rod, powder measures, etc. Nice case but handle is broken, both strap loops are broken with only one strap. CONDITON. Excellent. Frame colors have turned a soft grey patina. Engraving is crisp. Wood is excellent with some minor abrasions / impressions. Checkering is still sharp. Beautiful browned finish and pattern on barrels. Mirror bores. Tight lock up. Works properly. Open chokes. Fine early documented gentleman's 10-bore
