Manufactured circa 1856 and purchased for issue by the US Navy. Standard 7 - 1/2" octagon barrel with New York address and brass pin front sight. Naval engagement scene rolled 6-shot percussion cylinder. Frame correctly marked on the left "COLTS / PATENT / U.S.". London made iron trigger guard and backstrap, as is correct for these early purchase guns built with some leftover English parts. Butt stamped "U.S.N. / J.L.H." indicating this example was inspected by James L. Henderson at the Norfolk Naval Yard. Grips are plain 1-piece oil finished walnut. CONDITION: Good. Gun displays an even cleaned brown patina with some freckles. Cylinder scene partially legible. Grips are very good as moderately worn with scattered marks. Strong, frosted bore. Fine mechanics. Matching numbers observed throughout. Several screws appear to be replacements.
