No papers, but likely 2nd or 3rd generation Kunitsugu, recorded in 1629-1658 and 1661, respectively, per Hawley. Fujishiro records Kunitsugu Yamashiro no Kami circa 1658, Musashi province, and rates him Chu-Saku. Fujishiro also notes that he was thought to be a smith who moved from Echizen to Edo. 67.3cm nagasa of classic shinogi zukuri form, with iori mune and chu-kissaki. Jihada is ko-itame and a few spots of mokume burls, jinie, and chikei. Hamon of a largely suguha base with a few notare waves in ko nie deki with ko-ashi and inazuma visible. Bo utsuri visible. Nakago with two mekugi-ana, signed katana-mei "Yamashiro no Kami Fujiwara Kunitsugu". Two piece silver foiled habaki, bottom half with punched florals. Fuchi, kashira, and sayajiri of elegant Nara school shakudo waves with gilt dot highlights; signed on fuchi "Tsuchiya masa (?, unclear)". Tsuba is unsigned, but appears to be after Mito, with a silver rim, and depicting a dragon flowing amongst clouds, cleverly done "through" the tsuba. With an appraisal sheet attributing the sword to 2nd generation. CONDITION: Very good, in good polish throughout, with some minor handling marks and one pockmark on each side, very small. Mounts are very good with some minor handling marks. A very attractive sword.
