Produced in 1868 at the height of the post-Civil War Westward Migration. Fitted with a blued 24" octagon barrel chambered in .44 RF bearing early and desirable Henry's and King's patent roll mark. Dovetail mounted blade front sight and 900 yard graduated Henry rear sight. An additional tang mounted windage adjustable aperture rear sight is mounted to the tang and appears to have been for some time. Standard full length magazine tube with thread in plug. Iconic brass 2nd Model receiver with blued loading gate. The plain walnut forend is mounted with a dimpled brass nose cap with sling swivel. Matching straight grip walnut stock with sling swivel and brass crescent rifle butt plate. Tool trap retains an original 4-piece iron cleaning rod. Matching numbers found on left side of lower tang under the wood, in top tang channel of buttstock and inside toe of butt plate. CONDITION: Very fine. Barrel retains the majority of its original blue, drifting to brown patina at the high areas. Magazine tube has largely faded to chocolate patina. Brass exhibits an especially attractive untouched mellow mustard patina with some spotting and mild verdigris along the gaps. Hammer retains faint traces of case color, largely faded to patina. Lever and tang sight likewise have turned largely to a brown patina. Stocks retain significant portions of original varnish with the usual nicks and impressions, in addition to a hairline crack through the bottom butt plate screw hole. Bore displays strong well defined rifling throughout. Crisp mechanics. A very nice example.
