Winchester officially introduced 28 gauge chambering for the iconic Model 12 in November of 1937. Relatively few were produced before production ceased in 1958, making them the scarcest of the 12s. According to numbers compiled by Dave Riffle, this example was produced in 1937 during the first year of production. It features a blued skeet choked raised solid rib 26" Winchester Proof steel barrel with correct Winchester proof to the left of rib. Rib is matted in waves with a red bead front sight and small central bead. Blued "SKEET" marked takedown receiver. Diamond checkered walnut slide and pistol grip stock with hard rubber WRACO grip cap and buttplate. Buttplate has a glued repaired crack near the toe, and therefore could not be removed by the cataloger to observe the gauge marking on the rear of receiver. Magazine cut off is correctly marked "28". Magazine tube clip marked "20" as is standard. CONDITION: Very good overall. Gun retains approximately 90% original blued finish with some slivering along the high edges, wear from cycling, and other scattered marks. Stocks show only light handling marks and a small chip at the toe. Finish has some spotting. As noted, buttplate has a repaired split. Bore shows evidence of use. Fine mechanics. A very nice, scarce small bore Winchester.
