Circa 1892 per "James Purdey & Sons: Gun and Rifle Makers: Two Hundred Years of Excellence" by Dallas. 29 - 7/8" chopper lump barrels with a diminutive bead front sight on a tapered, narrow concave rib engraved with Purdey's Audley House address and Whitworth steel designation. Barrel flats with British view and proof marks, "12 / C'" in a diamond and "12". Bottom of tubes with "14501" serial number, and "12125" and "12126" tube numbers on either side of forearm loop. Faint "CHOKE" ahead of flats, and "C.A" barrel makers proof. Splinter forearm with reinforced Anson plunger release, checkered in point pattern, and engraved with scroll and florals on exterior iron. Interior with matching serial number, "PATENT", and small actioner's initials, soft, but appear to be "AD". Case colored sidelocks with "J. Purdey & Sons", classic Purdey house rose-and-scroll pattern with two central bouquets supported by scroll, and arrow cocking indicators. Action flats with disc set strikers, assisted opening mechanism, and view proofs. Automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold ahead of tab. Double triggers are bladed for a right handed shooter and protected by a long tang blued trigger guard with serial number and scroll engraving. Nicely figured walnut with fiddlebacking, checkered in point pattern about the wrist with mullered borders. and inset with a brass vanity plate at toe line, engraved with a gothic "ERP". Checkered butt. In a brass tabbed leather case, lid escutcheon with "J.P. BRANT / 535 So. Citrus Avenue Covina California", interior lined in red with James Purdey Audley house trade label, a charge card for this gun, and compartmentalized for gun and accessories comprising cleaning rod and handle, glass James Dixon oil bottle, brush, oiler, bone striker pot with pair strikers, and pair snapcaps. CONDITION: Very good as rehabilitated. Barrels with virtually all of a good quality matte blacking with some minor handling marks, and some pinprick oxidation under the bluing. Forearm is very good with sharp checkering and a moderate impression through checkering. Locks with some case colors on plates, more retained in recesses, with silvering to sharp edges and carry area. Trigger guard reblued, softening engraving somewhat. Stocks very good as well restored, with good figure and appearance, and some minor handling marks from the field. Mechanically fine, ejectors slightly out of time, right firing first, bores are bright and reappear to have been reamed. Case very good, relined, with very good accessories.
