Manufactured circa 1848-1850 by Henry Deringer in Philadelphia. These pistols were so popular, future pistols of small size would be referred to as "Derringers" regardless of manufacture, and were heavily copied during the period as well. Barrel is semi-octagonal with 7-groove rifling, German silver blade front sight, and notch rear sight mounted on tang. Deringer trademark is visible on breech, bordered by silver inlay borders. Back action lock engraved with near full coverage of florals and is marked in the same manner as breech. Walnut stock with checkered grip. Silver mounted, with floral engraving on all mounts. Marked on barrel with agent marking "N. Curry & BRO / SAN FRANCO CALA / AGENTS". PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Very good, with iron assemblies turned a gray patina. Stock has been lightly sanded and refinished with repairs visible at grip on right side near checkering, and at silver shield escutcheon. Silver mounts have been polished bright. Action holds on full cock but does not have a half cock. Bore has sharp rifling.
