Second model .32 New Departures were manufactured between 1902 and 1909, with matching numbers observed on butt, cylinder, and latch. Engraved with approximately 75% coverage of deluxe open acanthus scroll engraved with a punch dot background and shaded with hatching and chipped borderwork, in the manner of L.D. Nimschke. On the left side of the frame is an inscription "MISS PEARL JONES." in a ribbon on a finely stippled ground, with the reverse engraved "June 9th 1906" in one of the scroll curls. Fit with a set of pearl grips with brass S&W medallions. Blue trigger guard, trigger, and top latch. The action works and indexes fine. Checkered grip safety on the back strap. CONDITION: Metal retains the vast majority, approximately 80%, of the original nickel, with most losses confined to barrel assembly, at flutes and bottom of barrel, and grip straps. Case colors still visible on trigger, pearl grips have excellent fire and no cracks or chips. Mechanically fine, bore is bright and shiny with sharp lands and grooves. While research has been unable to locate Miss Pearl Jones, she must have been a person of some means to be in possession of such a revolver.
