Manufactured in 1906. This 22" rifle has the oval P for a barrel made at Winchester and sent out to be fitted outside the factory. This gun also has the WP on both barrel and frame. A 22" short rifle would have been fitted with an 8 - 3/8" forearm rather than the standard 9 - 3/8", which might indicate that this barrel was added later, but we believe it was shortened as the flat cut muzzle has a fresh radius. The front sight does have the proper 7/8" to center. Other features include the half octagon barrel, half magazine take down, small blade front sight, folding leaf long tang rear sight and a tang sight. Rifle is a standard blue finish. Stock is fitted with a rifle butt plate and matching forearm. CONDITION. Very good. The receiver is all grey with some blue in the loading gate and on the extractor. The barrel retains 90% of its blue with a strong two-line Winchester barrel address. Wood is about flush with scattered minor dings and impressions. The bore is sharp and bright. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
