According to Madis this was one of the last 10 rifles manufactured in 1881, 1882 production beginning at serial number 81621. The rifle features a special order extra length 28" octagon barrel, Marbles Sheard front sight, sporting rear, blued finish, and 2-piece varnished walnut stocks with tool trap crescent rifle butt plate. The 2nd model frame appears to have originally been slated for a carbine, drilled for a saddle ring stud, the holes plugged with filler screws. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel retains the majority of its fading factory blue with high edge wear and toning. Magazine tube has largely faded to plum patina. Receiver displays strong traces of factory polished blue, the balance a gray patina with some cleaned oxidation spotting. Stocks have some light marks and an added coat varnish with runs over onto the metal in some areas. Bore has strong, well defined rifling. Fine mechanics. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection
