Lot consists of: One contemporary USN officer's sword and one pre-Civil War militia officer's sword. (A) Contemporary US Navy officer's sword, in form like the M1852, but with narrower blade. CONDITION: Excellent, but with some toning to copper of the brass scabbard mounts. (B) 1840-1860 brass hilt, helmet pommel sword with oval, reeded bone grip, chain guard, S-curved guard with languette and cast floral motifs and oval panel engraved "94." CONDITION: Good. Blade is etched but shows grey with dark grey spotting. Etching legible, "W. H. Horstmann & Sons / Philadelphia" in scroll panel reverse. Motifs include anchor and crossed arrows tied with knot. Brass scabbard floral engraved obverse at drag and rings. Rings and throat stud in place. Ming dings and brown stains. Throat shows some denting at lip. Helmet pommel loose. SR.
