June 12-13, 2019 Edged Weapon, Armor, & Militaria
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2019
Lot consists of: (A) World War II Japanese Type 99 grenade, in fine/excellent condition with parts of the paper label present but no legible printing. The fuze and safety pin are in excellent condition, as is the safety pin cord. Of the two standard Japanese grenades, this one is considerably harder to find. (B) While technically a mortar, this World War II Japanese Type 91 projectile for the mortar/grenade discharger was in fact the father of the standardized Type 97 grenade. This example is in fine condition, with worn paint and no red top, but still retaining partial markings on the base. The fuze is intact and in very good condition with a dent on one side and the safety pin/cord intact. The propellant cup is intact and in fine condition. (C) The most common of the World War II Japanese grenades, this Type 97 is in fine/excellent condition. It has great paint with the deep red top a strong contrast to the black body. The fuze is intact and in very good condition, but loose from handling, common with these grenades. The cord and pin are both intact and in good condition.
