A most unusual unmarked French Bebe that Vera felt was a Hallopeau Bebe. A unique composition and wood French body with straight wrists and integral ball joints. When comparing to various makers of Bebe`s she exhibits characteristics similar to the Hallopeau, Schmidt, Jumeau, Mothereau, regardless of manufacturer this exquisite doll has striking features. Her almond shaped spiral grey/blue paperweight eyes are outlined in black, she has a strong chin and a finely painted mouth. Her pressed bisque is softly painted and without any detractions. The outfit, is of antique silk with gathering down the front in the typical French style, antique underwear, boots, a blonde mohair wig. The body is in original finish excepting the lower arms which have older repaint. Although the head is unmarked at the rear of head at the crown an “H” in red paint is present but our belief is this has been added at some point in time after manufacture. The wig/cork pate is glued tight but careful inspection reveals no damage to the bisque head.
