The huge head on this pipe reflects the fact that is was much larger at one time, and probably attached to a full Avian form body. The importance of these "great" pipes to the Mississippian culture is reflected in this pipe, which has been salvaged and used, even after the body had been removed. Unusual triangular appendages on the beak of this bird, suggest it to be a crow.
