According to the Colt Factory Archive letter. This gun left the factory as a .45 Colt with a 4 - 3/4" barrel, nickel finish, pearl grips, and factory engraving. It was shipped to Stauffer, Eshleman & Company, New Orleans, Louisiana, C/O A.J. Anderson Company, Fort Worth, Texas, on August 17th, 1916, in a shipment of 2 guns. Two line address on top of the barrel "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.". Roll die caliber designation on the left side of the barrel, "COLT 45". Two line three date patent dates on the left side of the frame "PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 12, 72 JAN. 19, 75". There is a rampant Colt logo next to the patent dates. VP proof on the left front trigger bow. Matching serial numbers observed on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. Last four digits of the serial number observed on the barrel under the ejector rod housing and on the rear of the cylinder. Scroll and foliate engraved with a punch dot background, with zigzag borders and other geometric designs incorporated into the engraving. This gun sports a set of carved mother of pearl two-piece grips with a bulls head motif on the left grip. These grips have been added to this gun. There is also a letter from a previous owner stating that he purchased it from the family that originally purchased this gun. They lived in Waco, Texas, and worked for the railroad there. CONDITION: This gun retains the vast majority of the factory-applied nickel finish. Most of the finish loss is to the left front of the barrel. Bright and shiny bore with sharp lands and grooves. Action locks up tight and indexes fine. The grips have some chips at the top of each grip.
